Supervises Banquet Services Staff
This job description is intended to provide an outline of essential duties of this position. It is not intended to cover all aspects of the position. Duties may vary under the direction of the reporting supervisor and are subject to change at any time with or without prior notice at the discretion of the CRVA.
Purpose:
A hands-on supervisor for the banquet services department and works to ensure that all clients receive top quality service and that all requirements for catering functions as presented in a professional manner.

o All Food & Beverage departments
o Contract Sales (Catering Managers)
o Event Services (Event Managers)
o Facilities Services and Engineering Departments
o Client Representatives
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise banquet staff by providing leadership and assistance. Supervise actual food and beverage service and table presentation.
• Assist the Banquet Manger with scheduling servers, posting prepared schedules, assignments and contacting servers for event staffing needs.
• Conduct attendance call with the banquet staff and review event requirements/details prior to the event.
• Keep daily time and attendance records for the banquet staff.
• Ensure that the banquet staff is handling, maintaining and cleaning equipment such as: linen, silver, china, glassware, fixtures, etc.
• Work with the on duty Event Manager, to ensure quality service for each catered event.
• Make client aware of your presence prior to the event and provide the client with the Banquet Manager’s contact number.
• Responsible for pre and post functions for all activity in and around the beverage stations in the main kitchen.
• Carry out all banquet orders as assigned including set-up/break-down, equipment, and any additional requirements.
• Assist the Catering Steward in determining the necessary requirements for food preparation stations, serving style, and time requirements for each event
• Check all public areas and back of the house areas making certain that they are in order.
• Review banquet checks for accuracy prior to function. All checks are to be processed daily. Presenting the check to guest for their signature following banquets.
• Monitor the progress of the event, replenishing food and beverage when necessary.
• Contact the Banquet Manager and/or the Event Manager of any changes or request made by clients.
• Assist with service when necessary.
• Assist with training of new and current banquet staff members.
• Enforce all dress and grooming requirements.
• Inspect all banquet equipment to ensure proper usage, setup and storage.
• In the absence of the Banquet Manager, the captain has authority to make decisions to achieve the total success of the banquet event.
• The Banquet Manager is to be notified, when events occur that may warrant disciplinary action to an employee. These situations should be documented correctly for the Banquet Manager’s review.
• To obtain full knowledge of the Convention Center’s alcohol Awareness program, as well as the state of North Carolina’s policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional attire, image and demeanor at all times.
• Attend all meetings as required.
• Comply with all CRVA and Convention Center policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as requested.
• Must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• High School Graduate or equivalent. A combination of experience and education may be evaluated.
• One (1) year of Banquet or similar food service experience required.
• 21 years or older. (Alcohol Service Requirement )
• Bilingual (Spanish, etc) speaking/communication skills are a plus.
• Previous experience in hotel, convention center or multi-meeting facility.
• Previous supervision experience.
• Knowledge of State and Federal Food and Beverage regulations.
• Computer/Software skills required, Word, Excel, and etc.
• Effective written and verbal skills.
• Problem solving skills.
